Many country consulates recommend that citizens report their arrival so that their names can be added to a citizens' register.

UK Citizens
The consular section of the British Embassy Luxembourg provides help for British nationals living in or travelling to Luxembourg. GOV.UK provides information on trade and investment between Luxembourg and the UK, travel advice and advice on living abroad.

Many services are available for British citizens living in or travelling to Luxembourg. These include:
- Certifying documents
- Providing help for those who are victims of a crime or in hospital
- Providing contact details of doctors and lawyers
Note: UK embassies, high commissions and consulates no longer issue passports. This is now done centrally by Her Majesty’s Passport Office in the UK. Applications for renewal take at least four weeks, but may take longer if further information is necessary. UK nationals are advised not to book travel until they have received their renewed passport.

US Citizens
The Embassy of the United States of America, Luxembourg has a website with information for American citizens living in Luxembourg. The US Citizens Service consular section provides passport services, registration of births of American citizens abroad, information on visas, federal benefits, notary services, adoptions, as well as offering emergency assistance to American citizens in distress.
The US Embassy website also has information on marriage, hospitals, doctors and pharmacies in Luxembourg and a list of English-speaking attorneys and translators.

Voting in US elections
US citizens living overseas are eligible to vote by absentee ballot in the general presidential elections. The Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) has complete information and online registration and absentee ballot request forms for the Federal Post Card Application (OFPCA). They provide a toll-free number for citizens outside of the US to call for information.

Irish Citizens
